The most likely location of BMDs for someone born in Gomersal is Birstall -- lots of my ancestors came from that area.

There is a baptism of a Benjamin Dove on 14th Oct 1798 at Birstall - parents John and Elizabeth Dove of L. Gomersal. (Presume that is Lower Gomersal).
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

That baptism looks good.
Tineke - Is your Benjamin a clothier in the 1851 census? If so, the 1798 baptism could be him. Based on the 1827 marriage witness: Joseph Dove. There is a JD who is also a clothier in 1851. And there is an earlier baptism for him with the same parents.

Hi,

Snap :)

Gomersal was in the Parish of Birstall, so I think this could be him,

Benjamin
14 Oct 1798
Birstall, St Peter, Yorkshire
son of
John & Elizabeth DOVE of L. Gomersal

The image I can see at FindMyPast shows Elizabeth but here it is Betty but I can't see the image.

FindMyPast image also says Betty,

Benjamin
14 Oct 1798
Birstall, St Peter, Yorkshire
son of
John & Betty DOVE of Little Gomersall,  Banksman

Regards,
Daisy

A baptism for your Mary Clegg might be more difficult to pin-point. There were several Mary Clegg's born circa 1800 in Birstall.

Tineke --- Did Mary also give Gomersal as her birthplace?

As Hillhurst says, there were several baptised with that name -- but the parents were from other little areas which Birstall covered.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

I found a Mary Clegg baptised 10th May 1801 Dewsbury Father Joseph mother is given as Achsah ( don’t know what name to make of that ). Benjamin & Mary lived in Dewsbury after their marriage so thought this was a possibility .

There are three Dewsbury christenings in a short time period (10 May 1801, 21 Feb 1802, 29 Dec 1802). Two of those have father Joseph, one with Jonathan. "Achsah" appears as the mother on multiple christenings so I guess that really was her name!
