Douglas of Aultnaleard
« on: Sunday 24 October 21 16:51 BST (UK) »
I have asked this before .. but am still struggling with it. In a death 1855 for Oliver Douglas (Scotlands People) place of death given as Aultraleard ...... and in 1824 marriage record (William Douglas and Helen Paterson) at Tongue .. address given as Aultnaleard. Where is this place
William Stephenson - born 1814 at Doncaster West Yorkshire - married Mary Scott at Cottingham East Yorkshire (Hull) in 1838. Williams parents I believe were another Wm Stephenson and an Alice Carter - married Cantley Parish W Yorks (Doncaster) in 1811..... Other east riding names are Nicholls (Bridlington, Yorks and Wigan Lancs.) and the surname Withernwick.

Can you post extracts of the documents that contain them?

Death place looks more like Strathxxx something.

Could it be STRATHNAVER?

Added: I think I am looking at the wrong page! Is it the place name on the second page of the register?

It's still on the map https://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NC6330 and the satellite view shows a house, but no idea if it's habitable, let alone inhabited.

Looks good, GR2  :)

To add to map options, a further one here https://mapcarta.com/N8839343276

Alltalaird looks to be just around 5 miles south of Strathnaver.

The Loch Choire Estate came up for sale c. 2015. Off the grid it is, Don...but pretty stunning scenery isn't it https://media.onthemarket.com/properties/1685455/doc_1_3.pdf
