Flintshire -- probate but no death record
« on: Monday 01 November 21 12:14 GMT (UK) »
I have Florence Amy Leslie with a probate record of 1922. This says she died on 27 April in Rhyl and probate was granted to her son on 25 September. However, I can find no record of her actual death. Has anyone any ideas?
I have checked Flintshire newspapers for any references to Florence in 1922 or otherwise without success. She was not Welsh and I previously had her living in London for her entire life up to 1919, when she was in hospital in Cheshire.

The Probate Calendar gives her year of death as 1912 - not that it helps much, as I can't see a death registration in that year for Florence Amy.

I haven't looked for newspaper entries in 1912.

BUT the Probate entry states that Administration has been granted to Alan DUNBAR Leslie.  AND there is a death registration in St Asaph RD, which covers Rhyl, in September quarter 1922 for Florence DUNBAR Leslie, aged 56.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hi there, just this minute found her death registration and burial on FamilySearch! Why on earth a perfectly good death registration doesn't show up in Ancestry or FindMyPast I don't know but so it is ...

Thank you for replying!!

Just looked at the GRO Wills website and 1912 has been altered to 1922  :)  And 1922 shows on FindMyPast for both death registration and Probate.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

She was actually BURIED in Rhyl in July 1922 so that seems definitive!  ;D

Thank you for your response. The problem arose because her birthdate was given as 1866 rather than 1862. Perhaps she'd always told her son she was four years younger than she actually was??

Because her death was not registered as Florence Amy  :)

F M P has death registered
Leslie, Florence D
born 1866 died 1922
England & Wales Deaths 1837-2007
St. Asaph, Denbighshire, Wales

Her burial on familysearch also has her as Florence Dunbar Leslie

I'm assuming that you have information related to Oscar Dunbar Leslie, plus Alan Dunbar Leslie.  :-\

Hi, just to clarify this one -- yes, plenty of evidence on her husband Oscar and her son Alan. I also now have her death certificate. Many thanks to all for commenting.
