Hello Gwil,

Many thanks for your reply there is a lot of information there for me to follow up on I have not attempted this type of research before.

Absent Voters for Hulme District.
44 Hyde Street = George Frederick Bates. Pte 521004 552 HS Em Co.

Is that the address you have for him in Hyde Street? He's the only one showing at the address.

I am sorry I do not have a door number on Hyde Street, his youngest son George was born 8th July 1917 at the address so I have no idea why his wife Florence and family were not there.

In 1923 he was in Tame Street Institute and in 1926 he was in Crescent Institute, then we know nothing more.

The info is from the Absent Voters section of Electoral Rolls and not the full Electoral Rolls (which I haven't got) so the non military members of the family would not be on it. I'm not sure where the full Electoral Roll for that year would be (online)

It looks likely to be him doesn't it. Shame the actual number of the house is no showing on your source material.

edit: The Absent Voters Register was for 1918.
