Christopher Clark/Sarah D'Almaine
« on: Thursday 04 November 21 06:16 GMT (UK) »
This mystery has been bugging me for a long time and I just can’t seem to get any further with it…if anyone can shed some light on these two or point me in the right direction as to where to look for further info that would be great thanks.

(My 4x G Grandfather) John Horatio Clark born 21 Jul 1805, bap 29 Jan 1806 St John, Newcastle upon Tyne, parents Christopher Clark and Sarah D’Almaine.

I can trace John through his marriage in St Pancras, London, and subsequent children etc, but I cannot find any info about his parents or any siblings. His Baptism record appears to show that he is the 3rd son of this couple (all baptisms on the page state various numbers, i.e. 1 dau of…4 son of…; so I am assuming these numbers relate to the number of each sex of child born to that particular couple?).

Sarah D’Almaine is a fairly distinctive name, but I cannot find anything about her, even with all the variations Delmain, Delamain, Dalmaine, etc.

Thank you 😊

Don't know if you have this but this is on the adjacent page to the baptism and gives info on the parents.  Looks like Christopher was a Captain in Cumberland Royal Mlilitia and possible info on Sarah's family

Kay

Sorry it is rather faint

I see that it mentions Seaton Ross, Yorkshire and there is a Chelsea Pensioners Discharge Document on FindMyPast for a Christopher Clark born 1745 Seaton Ross, Yorkshire   He was in the Royal Horse Guards and discharged on 16 Jun 1796

Kay

Birth town of Cocklington or Pocklington is also mentioned on the document

....and now that I've found the original, I see that William D'Almaine is named as Sarah's father. William was brother to George, embroiderer to the King...can't thank you enough Kay, my night just got way more exciting!

Sounds a fascinating family.   :)

If it helps with Christopher the discharge document lists his service as 29 3/4 years .  The family must have moved around a lot with the military

Thank you...yes I should think they did move a lot. So much to investigate now!
