Although he was born near Ashton under Lyne / Manchester area of Lancashire, William's parents William Touchburn and Mary Duffy were both born in Ireland -- his father died in ireland while his mother died in Glasgow.

I wish Mary Hamilton TICHBORNE had died in Scotland rather than England so her mother's maiden name would have been stated on her death record .... nothing so helpful on English death certificates

I am not sure if that is right. There is another Archibald Hamilton born in Irvine working as a tailor and living in Beith Ayrshire with wife Agnes and family.

Elizabeth HAMILTON's parents were David HAMILTON and Sarah STEWART so I guess it's possible even though this David was born in Glasgow? I've never heard of Mary being Mary Ann was anything's possible

He is in Beith census from 1841 to 1871 - always working as a tailor and the younger members of the family working as cotton weavers. From 1851 to 1871 Archibald's place of birth is given as Irvine. I don't know what happens to him after 1871?

Yes.

The 1841 census only recorded whether or not the person was born in the same county. It wasn't until 1851 that the actual parish of birth was recorded.

If you are using a transcription that says 'Ayr' it ought to be saying 'Ayrshire'.
