Strachan, Kincardineshire

Thank you.  This isn't the Bowbutts I remember, but I may have visited the site of the owners house, which was on the main road through Strachan and were invited inside.  There were a couple of cottages behind this house and to the right hand side new houses were being built.

in the 1871 census William Reid and family are stated to be in Kirkton, but in the 1881 census the address is Hamlet.  Where would Hamlet be?

A definition of a hamlet being a small settlement, generally one smaller than a village.

So, I think the address was not specific on this 1881 census entry for the Reids.

Thank you.  By 1891 they had moved to Dee Street, Banchory Ternan.  WhenI visited Strachan all those years ago I was just starting out with family research and regret now that I didn't take photographs etc.  But we live and learn.
