Unusual New DNA Match on MH
« on: Sunday 14 November 21 14:32 GMT (UK) »
Yesterday I had a new DNA 66cM match on MH with whom I have no shared ethnicity or genetic groups but have 795 shared matches!
I’ve never seen anything anywhere near this with my other matches. I looked through the first couple of hundred and found only 2 had triangulated segments which on my side were very small matches. I ran the autocluster tool but it excluded this new match saying there were no shared matches.

Just a bit unusual, or something not right?

Question: Are the majority of your shared SNPs with this person on chromosome 15? Also, did you test directly with MyHeritage or upload your data from another site?

Hi Queenie,

There are 6 shared segments, the largest 3 are on chromosomes 14(19.4cM), 17(13.6) and 22 (13.9), nothing on 15 at all

Mine was an upload from Ancestry

I thought so; I have seen many posts on here detailing strange matches on MH, and almost all of them were uploads from Ancestry.

I recall reading something about issues with transferring DNA data onto MH, rather than testing directly. It can sometimes create false matches, apparently. Perhaps the cause of yours?

I've also had this issue with several continental European matches (I also uploaded from Ancestry); there is clearly no link between us, despite what MyHeritage claims. I just discount them.

I may be completely wrong, but this is what came to my mind when I read your post.

I also have a number of continental matches that I've never been able to find links to.

There's a couple of things I'm tempted to do; upload my 23&Me data and see whether these matches remain or alternatively take advantage of MH's current reduced price test offer and see if that makes a difference.

It would be a shame if this 66cM is not a bone fide match, it's my 7th highest and it's not often I get a new one that makes my top ten on MH.

I also recently had a strange MH match. I share 43 cM over six segments and have 623 shared matches. I can't find any with triangulated segments, however, I do know where about 5 shared matches fit into my tree and they are on different lines.
Armitage, Atherton, Barton, Beck, Bradshaw, Brumfitt, Chetwin, Conalty, Connolly, Connor(s), Davidson, Hilton, Hoey, Johnson, Jones, Knight, Lester, McDonald, Molyneux, Morris, Pownall, Rushton, Spark, Stanley, Tunstall, Welsby, West, Wharton, Williams, Wilson, Windridge, Windstandley
