Richard Clayton Lincolnshire/London
« on: Sunday 14 November 21 18:50 GMT (UK) »
Richard Clayton born circa 1811 married Elizabeth Holmes (1822-1911) on 18th November 1841, Owston,Lincolnshire.
Richards headstone is in St Martin’s churchyard, Owston Ferry, Lincolnshire : “ died in Brompton hospital and interred St Luke’s churchyard, London” December 18th 1852 aged 41.
2 children: Ann Elizabeth and Richard who died in early childhood also appear on headstone
Along with Henry May ( Elizabeth’s second husband) “ interred in adjoining churchyard.”
Elizabeth who died in 1911 aged 89
Also Jonathan Holmes died 1885 aged 80 ( assuming Elizabeth’s brother? )
I am trying to establish where Richard Clayton is on the 1851 census and why he died and was buried in London?
The 1851 census shows Elizabeth Clayton ( transcribed as Clayson) married aged 29 is living at West Ferry, Owston, Lincolnshire
Frederick Clayton, son, aged 7 , George, son aged 5, Richard aged 8 months and Elizabeth Holmes, mother ( in law) aged 67

Do you know what occupation Richard had?  It could be he travelled for work.

Also if he died as a result of an accident (death certificate will have cause of death) for example there could be a report in a local newspaper.

The burial register has his abode "Lawrence Street" so maybe finding that on the 1851 census would give a clue.
