it would be worth contacting the local newspaper ; Leicester Mercury
they have an archive of old photos
and a section called Mr Leicester where there are photos and old articles .

my step sisters family were boot and shoe makers here
I researched a bit for her and was preparing a general talk pre covid ..

Take a good look at the census ..originals you will find whol;e streets and family members working in the trade but on different sho parts heels soles etc
then the shops + fitters + journeyman shoemakers who took their skills or products further afield

there is a shoemaker on welford road who runs old fashioned shoe repair shop, very knowledgeable about his own family history. My notes are in dissaray due to moving and working intensively on my mother's side  ..im sorry i cant remember name or exact location .its near the prison .

I can certainly take you on a virtual tour of streets by filming and commentating :
when its safe to take busses again as im currently living a little outside leicester .
Its good to hear local accents too

private message me . I can give you contact details of the History researcher for Leicester Mercury and radio leicester .

why not tune in from NZ this morning there's a phone in about oldest possession in your house ..
my sistor has an iron shoemaker's last

are you on ancestry ..do you want me to look up any of your people ?

Ive not been to the records office for a while .

I was looking for old maps on a site which, unfortunately has now closed.

However, the alternative site has maps close to the period and labels a few Boot and Shoe factories.

Interesting mentioning Shepshed. Once, when visiting, someone ran into the back of my car and damaged my boot.
