Dear Hillhurst
I tried to find the Irish newspaper article on find my past but could not find it.

Hi Jenny - the FindMyPast record I mentioned isn't newspaper-related. It's an actual record.

Record set: Irish Tontines Annuitants 1766-1789
Date: 1865
Name: Blenkinsopp, George Thomas Leaton

This is very weird how can someone die twice.
He was buried immediately after his death a year earlier In the Hamsterley church.
Also him and Harriet were long divorced after he tried to kill her.
I have his death certificate, his son George ilderton was the informant.
Also his very very long will. Proved more or less immediately after his death
Regards Jenny
Blenkinsopp: Whickham & Co Durham
Leaton: Co Durham & Northumberland
Blenkinsopp Leaton: Co Durham & Northumberland & London.
Powell: London & Surrey
Vincent: St Oysth & London
Buckfield: Sutton Surrey & London,

Oh my...  :o  :o  (I'm unable to view that FindMyPast 1865 record, so don't know what it mentions).

According to a Solicitor, "William __ ? Bishop Auckland" verifying the Tontine 1789, First Class, No 2769 he had  known GTLB  35 years and "to the best of my knowledge he died on or about the 6th of ( _)ember, 1865 and that he was the proprietor (_)intly with Harriet Blenkinsopp, wife (formerly Harriet Collingwood) ..."'

(_) - fold in the document obscures the wording..

George's entry in the Tontine record set is to confirm his death. Of course, re. Tontines , the later the date of death the better!

Harriot's entry is an accounts ledger entry of a payment made following her death -

Deaths proved between Aug 76 and Feb 77
No. of the Order - 2769
Died before 10 Oct, Div £1.0136746 - Harriot Blenkinsopp formerly Collingwood
Date of death - 1876 26 Sept
No. of days - 174
Dividend - £190 11 5
Div due - 1876 10 Oct
Amount due to date of death - £176 7 7
To be divided - £14 3 10

Browsing the records set is fascinating (or macabre/morbid?).
