Sylvanus Painter Honeybun
« on: Sunday 21 November 21 07:30 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I'm trying to identify what happened to a great-great-uncle.

Baptised as Sylvanus Painter, Broadway, Somerset in 1839. Mother: Hester Painter.
1841 & 1851: Broadway, Somerset (Hester had married Robert Honeybun, then Hugh Honeybun after Robert died)
Married Phoebe Wells in 1860 in Taunton.
1861: Broadway, Somerset with wife Phoebe.

... then nothing.

I've searched for deaths in the period 1861 to 1871 for both Sylvanus and Phoebe, with no success. I can really find no mention for either of them from then onwards.

I don't think Sylvanus is the Sylvanus Painter that can be seen In Ohio around this time - all the documents suggest his birthplace was Ohio, not England. And there's a Phoebe Honeybun to be seen in London but she was born and raised in the city,  not Somerset.

Thanks for any assistance,

Mark

I do not see his baptism or GRO registration but I note he is Syvanus Honeybun on the 1841 census and noted as Sylvanus Paynter Honeybond on his marriage registration, Solomon Honeyban 1861 census with Pheby Honeyban.

Nothing after 1861, looks likely to have emigrated?

I did find this birth but I do not see him on the 1871 census or a death but the name is common in Dorset.

HONEYBUN, ROBERT  JOHN     WELLS

Just for information I came across this 1871 census for George and his family, related maybe?

Just spotted that too so it does look like Wells for Phoebe is a link but can't find a marriage for her to Abraham Wembridge to confirm anything.

Do we think this is the same Phoebe or a different one?

Don't suppose we have her father from the marriage to Sylvanus to compare.
