Edith Annie Todd - Whitley Bay
« on: Sunday 21 November 21 14:25 GMT (UK) »
I`m trying to find out what became of Edith Annie Todd who was born in Stourport, Worcs  in 1877 but spent most of her working life as a nurse in Whitley & Monkseaton.  Her nursing records show that she left her post there 30/4/1920 when she would have been 43.
I haven`t been able to find a likely marriage or death for her in that area after that.
(I have been able to rule out two deaths for an Edith Todd in Wales and Essex)
Her address in 1911 was Esplanade Avenue in Whitley Bay where she was a boarder.

Her niece took part in the Mass Observation Project and mentions visiting a "fat aunt in Whitley Bay" in 1948 - but this might be a red herring!

Any help would be much appreciated

A spinster Aunt in 1948?

Have you looked on the 1939 register for her.

Even if it’s a red herring, what a way to describe the aunt! Lol.
Have you had any luck finding her in any electoral registers? Some are online esp on FindMyPast, but not all.
Also you may find the 1921 census may reveal where she is then when it’s released next year.
If I recall correctly, nurses had to leave if they married, so perhaps she did marry but not necessarily in the local area.
Lots of questions and no answers I’m afraid.

That`s her Milliepede!  May I ask where you found that?  She was at Liverpool Workhouse on the 1901 Census.  Her mother had lived in Stourport so maybe she had friends there

Another record The Queens Institute of Nurses gives her date of birth as 16 Oct 1877 but has written under her name Mrs Hall. Her married name?

There is , therefore, this marriage worth considering:

Edith A Todd and Robert R Hall Oct - Dec 1914 Kidderminster RD. Stourport lies within Kidderminster RD.

The 1926 midwifes roll may may not have been updated to include her marital status?

Dent (Haltwhistle and Sacriston), Bell and Jetson (Haltwhistle), Postle, Ward, Longstaff, Purvis, Manners, Parnaby and Hardy (Co. Durham), Kennedy and McRobert (Banffshire), Reid(Bathgate), Watson (Wemyss), Graham (Libberton), Sandilands (Carmichael), Munro (Dingwall)
