The children of Harriet Davidge, nee Harris
« on: Wednesday 24 November 21 02:33 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Another great-great aunt conundrum...

Harriet Harris (1842 - 1924) married John Davidge (1853 - 1934) in December 1875 in Seavington St Mary, Somerset.

On the 1911 census, it states that Harriet had had 2 children, none of which were still alive. She and John were living in Yeovil, Somerset at this time.

I've searched for these children but not found anything definitive - there are no children living with them in either the 1881, 1891 or 1901 censuses. However, Harriet had an illegitimate child, Charles William (1869 - 1872), which may have been one of the 2 deceased children recorded in 1911.

I've gone through GRO to find all Davidges born in Somerset between 1875 and 1911 but can't tie in anything with a certainty that it's the child of the couple.

The other alternative is that Harriet had another illegitimate child before she married but again I haven't found anything obvious in the online burial records of Seavington St Mary between 1860 or so and 1875.

Is there another approach that I could use to identify the missing child that anyone can suggest?

Everyone's help with my previous query was great - thank you with any assistance with this one.

With apologies for the much belated reply and many thanks for the suggestion.

It looks like Lily Maud's mother was Amelia Harris, so not the child I am looking for.

Lily can be seen with her grandmother Hannah in 1881, mother Amelia in 1891 and as a wife in 1901 (also with mother Amelia).

I'll keep on looking.

Technically the 1911 information shouldn't include any illegitimate children but purely list children "born to the marriage"  However people did make errors and misinterpret the question.

If she was doing it correctly I would look for early births/deaths after the marriage (between census)

Davidge could be mistranscribed.
