1900 Census, Canton, Stark County, Ohio
listed as John F Andrew and family

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MMXQ-MK2

(started at ancestry's 1900 census page and looked for Ethel born 1898 +/- 1 year, parents John and Lola. all names exact, no last name, living in Pittsburgh. Ancestry found them in Canton. same method - without the location - will work at familysearch. residence: anywhere, date: 1900 - 1900)

--------------
map of Allegheny City, 1901
https://historicpittsburgh.org/islandora/object/pitt:01v01ind/viewer

There is a street index at the top.
East Street and 2nd Street cross in plate 14 on the map.

That link gave me an error message sometimes, but not others. If you have a problem Google "1900 map allegheny city pa". the first result should be
https://historicpittsburgh.org/maps-hopkins . Scroll down to 1901 map of Allegheny. Click on it, then click on the link "1901, Volume 1 – Real estate plat-book of the city of Allegheny: Wards 1-8, 12, 13 ", then on the map, then on view this item.

Looks like they moved to Canton about 1899. The City Directories sometimes reflect the last year's residences, and they are in both Pittsburgh and Canton Directories for 1899:

1899 Canton City Directory
John A [Lola] Fortney, wks J H Eller & Co, res 720 East Fifth
Fortney, Daniel [Sarah], wks J H Eller & Co, res 1003 E Tuscarawas

1902 Canton City Directory
John Fortney not listed

1903 Canton City Directory
John Fortney, teamster, boards 1110 S McKinley Ave

1904
John Fortney not listed
1905
John Fortney, teamster, boards 1110 S McKinley Ave
1906
John Fortney, teamster boards 334 Prospect Ave
1907
John Fortney not listed

Note no mention of Lola after 1902. The directory did include spouses for other men.
Sarah is listed in all those years. She was running a boarding house starting in 1902 so her husband might have died. Others with her at times: Olive, Edna, Richard.

-----------
John returned to Pittsburgh by 1904/5:

1901 Pittsburgh City Directory no John Fortney
1902 no John.
1903 no John.

1905 Pittsburgh City Directory
John A Fortney, manager 510 Market, house at 2711 Webster Ave [assumed Pittsburgh]
1907 no John.

-----------
and  he remarrled in Iowa in 1906.

Thank you rootschatters for your most appreciated input on my query about Lola. Certainly I did not expect the wealth of data you have provided which has given the family a more insightful look into the family past.

Thank you again
Regards
