Tasmanian Convict - Conduct record
« on: Saturday 27 November 21 11:10 GMT (UK) »
I have the following record for James Hollis, a convict to Tasmania arrived 1825 on Sir Chas Forbes (convicted 1820)

https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-19$init=CON31-1-19p55
(image 55)
I can read some of the Conduct record (not the best behaved convict I've seen!) but there appears to be further information written in RED sideways on this document. I'm having trouble reading it - could anyone make sense of this for me please.

Thanks

Di

Can't make it all out, but maybe someone else can make out the words with ?

Transported for stealing a handkerchief from the person Govt Report ” In custody before sentence? of order.

Thick? Report "Good for all of stated this offence stealing a Handkerchief? from the prisoner? not stated? 'once served 6 months in Cold Bath Fields 'Single'

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coldbath_Fields_Prison

Coldbaths Fields was a prison, at first I thought the last word was 'Tingle"!

Thank you - that's all I need. I can understand the context now as he'd originally been convicted of stealing a hankerchief and had heard a rumor that he'd been charged for something previously but couldn't find the information.

Yes - the last word would be "single" as he was only 14 years old  ::)

Shall start with Coldbath  :D

Appreciate your help  :-*

Just to expand on manukarik's post, they are Gaol Report and Hulk Report.

These are standard convict record terms.

ADDED:

...Stealing a Hand Kerchief from the person...

Presumably the qualifier is to distinguish picking of the pocket from offences like burglary.

ADDED 2:

In the Hulk Report:  Good for all not stated.

Then another standard wording:  Stated this offence Stealing... etc

ADDED 3:

The word in line 3 is probably:  orderly
