Thank you all for this most helpful research.
You have uncovered George's move to India and his parentage, which is great.

Would mind checking out Rose Inness, please?

Here is a snip from a family photo taken in India (unknown date). The three children of Rose (left) and George (right) are not shown, but are Anglo-Indian. They are holding their two grandchildren.

I am checking to see if Rose was herself Anglo-Indian married George 6 Aug 1903.
How do we go about clarifying Rose's heritage, please?

Thank you
David

Hello David

Does the MC give any occupation for Rose's father John??   Could he also have been in the Army?

No occupation given.

Witnesses are: Henry Hargreaves (maybe something else) and William Smith - but no occupations.
Roses' father was John Inness.

Going through FIBIS I found a John Innes married Jeanie Learmont, and John Innes could have had a father W Innes 1757-1816, who died at Dyrham, Somerset.

It's all rather garbled and uncertain from the few hits via FIBIS.

Thank you very much.
Ive checked FindMyPast and Ancestry, there is very little re Rose Inness but there are some others named Rose or Inness who might be related (by a long shot).
Capt W Inness 1757-1816 is to be found via FIBIS, a surgeon. He married Isabelle Rawstorne in 1799, born to Major General Edward Rawstorne.
But proving these links seems to me to be pretty tenuous.

I was interested that the births of the children at that early date were recorded euphemistically (?) as "The lady of General was delivered of a son/daughter."
