Mary McMurray/ Sweeney
« on: Sunday 28 November 21 17:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

This is a brick wall for me.  My 3x Gt Granny was born around 1828 - Mary McMurray in  Fermanagh, married and moved to Greenock.  Her husband was George Sweeney, Mary had her last child in 1867 and one of her children died in 1868, she is not down as deceased on this child’s death certificate.

In 1874 George dies and he is a widower, I have looked everywhere for Mary’s death Certificate as I do not know her parents names, it is this information that I need, I have all her children etc, if anyone can help I would be so grateful.

Thanks
Kathy

Have you found George in the 1871 census? That should at least narrow the timescale depending on whether he was described as married or widowed.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I think son Edward married a Hellen Dickson on 15 Aug 1871 in Glasgow.

You could check the marriage reg to see what it says regarding his mum Mary (whether she showed as alive or deceased). Also his address at marriage might have been the family address if he was still living at home. With a Glasgow marriage, who knows till you look really.

Daughter Catherine married in December 1874 so this won't help you check anything further nor will son Patrick who married in 1884?

What was the address given when they registered the death of daughter Ann in 1868? The 1865 Valuation Rolls shows a likely address for George of  2 BROAD CLOSE in Greenock. Son Patrick and his family showing at this address in 1901 too.

The Valuation Rolls jump to 1875 on SP so nothing more to check there.

Hi
On Edwards marriage certificate in 1871 it does not say that his mum is deceased

Thanks
