the Lathom family of Standish
« on: Wednesday 01 December 21 18:33 GMT (UK) »
hello to you all,
Would anyone go to the RO in Preston? I'm trying to find out more about Theodore Latham. I have his Baptism 1649 in Standish. Then he disappears. I saw on RO website that

Register 176 1560- 1653 Baptisms, Marriages and Burials very poor quality, See LPRS fiche
is held there.
Is anyone up for this? I would really appreciate it.
All the best
Carolyn

If he was baptised in 1649 & the registers you quote finish 1653 - what info are you hoping for in the 4yrs since his baptism?    Do you think he died in infancy?

Are those registers indexed alphabetically?    If not - it would mean somebody manually trawling through them

hello !
I realise now how time consuming my look up request would be. I wanted to find out more about the Lathams of Standish and stupidly thought I could find out more !!!!!!  I'm so sorry about this.
I'll make sure this topic is now closed and get on with records which are available online.
All the best, and thank you
Carolyn

Don't give up too soon. You quoted "see LPRS fiche" so that register has been transcribed and published on microfiche by the Lancashire Parish Record Society. Someone on here may have a copy of it. The Society is unlikely to be still producing microfiche these days but it might be available on CD now instead. Check their website.

Aren't you just lovely.
I've ordered a CD from Lancashire PRS so that's great.

Thank you for your advice

St. Wilfrid, Standish registers 1653-20th century transcriptions are on Lancashire Online Parish Clerks website. A Lathom man whose first name was transcribed as "Tho" married Jane Nicholson 10th January 1684/5. Do you have the name of Theodore's father? Paul Lathom was curate of St. Wilfrid in 1650s.

A Theodore Letham, abode Bedford, was buried at St. Mary the Virgin, Leigh. 15th September 1722. Also buried there, Feb. 1720/1, John Latham, son of Theodore, abode Bedford. Baptisms of unnamed twins 1718, father transcribed as Leodore Latham, abode Pennington. Leigh is around 8 miles from Standish.

Baptism registers 1626-1699 aren't on the website.

A Theodore Lathom married Jane Wallwork, St. Peter, Bolton, 1714.
Baptism Alice Lathom, daughter of Theodore & Jane, abode Little Bolton Feb. 1715/16.
Bolton is about 9 miles from Standish.

Oooh,
I feel such an idiot missing the LOPC entries. I do usually check this website but I must have been having an elderly moment. Sorry to have wasted so much Rootschatterers time.
Thank you so much for this info.
