Help identifying an embossed stamp on old photo please
« on: Thursday 02 December 21 09:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I inherited some photos including one of an unnamed solider. I've actually found that he is wearing c1918 RAF uniform.
I'm looking for any clues that might help identify him.

The back of the photo is a K Ltd post card with no photographers name or address.

There is an embossed stamp, which I'm really struggling to read or research what it says. The first part looks like Gyde. There were apparently a few photographers with that name but the second part of the stamp doesn't seem to fit in with any of them.

Please can anyone read the stamp? I'd be great to see another photo with the same stamp to compare with mine because I think that might be the only way to read it.

First I scanned the photo at high res. The embossed stamp hardly shows up. Then I photographed it with a torch shining across the photo from different angles. I'll post more of my attempts at photographing it below.

Thanks,
Angelfish

Looks like an artist's palette?

The stamp box was in use 1918-36 & the style of the photo
is typical mid 20's-1930's.
No medal ribbon so didn't serve in WW1.
He looks in his 20's.
