How could she have died before 1891 when she is on the 1891 census with son Arthur?

The 1891 census of Bird Street isn't the wife's  Sarah.
The 1891 Sarah is on the return as born in Godalming whereas the wife's Sarah was born in Oxford.

I must have missed it when I originally found it

What is confusing is that in 1871 she is Sarah Oliver b Oxfordshire with husband Mark.

Mark died 1877

In 1881 she is Susan Oliver widow b Lambeth Surrey but address is same as 1871 as are eldest children.  1881 entry includes a son Arthur aged 4.  Did you notice the name and birthplace difference?  I have notified a correction

In 1891 she is as previously stated in my earlier reply with son Arthur aged 14 whose birth reg shows mmn Ward

Sorry been out all day walking the streets of London with the family.

Mark did indeed die on 6th Jul 1877 at 7 Carlisle Court.
Mark was born in Stonesfield, Oxfordshire.

Is the 1891 Sarah the one in Bird Street ?
Sorry I am dreadfully confused

OK I see it on the census again.

She was definitely still alive in 1891.  She was only 48 which is why I wondered if she may have remarried between 1891 - 1901.

Another long shot - in view of the 1881 entry name - there is a death for Susan Oliver in 1900 aged 58 in the Woolwich RD.  I can’t find an 1891 entry for a Susan Oliver living in the Woolwich RD but 1891 - 1900 is a long time & people moved around a lot more back then so there may be no connection

Morning,

So Life, Family, Christmas and health all got in the way since our last posts.

So this is what I have done on and off since:

Search 1:
Searched Free BMD marriages 1891 - 1901 for a Sarah Oliver marriages in Surrey.
Many there.

Searched Ancestry (now I have renewed my subscription) for marriages of a Sarah Oliver in Surrey 1896 +/- 5 years.
Using the two above searches above in combination sought out all that were in the area:
Newington, Camberwell, Southwark, Battersea and Wandsworth areas.
Then tried to match ages sort of 48+
Father James Ward
Widow.

No matches by the looks of it (unless I missed it)

Search 2:
Using the GRO site, FreeBMD and Ancestry looked for any deaths of a Sarah Oliver between 1891 and 1901 in the areas of Newington, Camberwell, Southwark, Battersea and Wandsworth.
Looking for the age range of 32-45

Again No result that matched (again unless I am missing something)

Timeline:
1843 b.  Oxford, Oxfordshire as Sarah Ward (Father James Ward).
1863 m. Oxford, Oxfordshire to Mark Oliver.
1871 Census: living in Carlisle Court, Lambeth, Surrey.
1881 Census: living in Carlisle Court, Lambeth, Surrey.
1891 Census: living in Bird Street, Lambeth, Surrey (Aged 48 and a widow)

Previous Searches:
Cannot find her on 1901 census.
Searched FreeBMD between Mar 1891 to Dec 1901
Searched GRO from 1891 to 1901
Ancestry, FindMyPast, FreeReg, FamilySearch - all nothing

What about the 1900 death - see my earlier reply 13.  She has been both Sarah & Susan on census entries

Hi Carole,

It certainly an interesting development.

Woolwich isn't a huge distance from the Lambeth/Bermondsey area.

I've had a relook at the various census' and the 1881 does have her as Susan. It's the only one she is a 'Susan'.

I'm going to put this in the "probably" file.

Thanks :)
