This would be Joseph Matthew born 1850 son of Joseph Bratton Jones and Susannah

The 2nd inquiry into the death of Charles F Jones age 20 who lately resided at 500 Rochdale Road who was killed by being run over by a lorry ......

Thanks Amondg - I have many of the newpaper reports and am primarily trying to find my info on Joseph B pre his marriage and possible father JohnB  I wish I could find reports on them pre 1850

I noticed that on the 1832 marriage for Mary Bratton Jones to Joseph Hattersley
one of the witnesses was named Josh Smethurst.
He may have married a Phillis BRATTON on 29 May 1833 at St Mary Manchester
see LOPC. May be no connection but thought I'd post just in case.....interesting there is also this baptism

Great finds Ladyhawk.
If I recall, Mary (Bratton Jones) Hattersley had a daughter Phillis.

Also, Phillis who was baptised 1833 was living In Long Millgate.
1841 J B Jones who is mentioned from the outset was living in Redfern  Street which is very close to Long Millgate.

All little bits which might help.

He was the only John Bratton Jones found on F M P Manchester Cemetery Records. There are quite a few named John Jones and some buried at Manchester Ardwick Cemetery. 

Can you remind me of his year of birth that would help to narrow down all the JJ's

Thanks - He is listed as about 60 in 1841 - but looking at deaths on the GRO Index he may well have been younger - as it's on F M P will also have a look

I don't know. Joseph Hattersley was my 3x great grandfather. I have his marriage to Mary Bratton Jones and their line forward but nothing more on them.

The point at which I am at is that Sarah could be Joseph's sister

That John Bratton Jones and Mary Bratton Jones could be brother and sister.

If that is so and the second John Bratton Jones marriage is the same person as the first one (which looks likely as the second one is of a widower) then Mary's father would be Robert Jones, farmer.

Although Hattersley is not a particularly common name it is quite big in Manchester!

Sorry Brie I missed your post - I am still confused about the Bratton Jones generations but with JB Jones listed as born about 1781 in 1841 - 30 years older than your Mary - I am coming round to him being the father your Mary Bratton Jones born 1810 Colebrookdale, Phillis Bratton born 1812 Colebrookdale (Ladyhawk found) and Joseph B Jones born about 1820 Manchester with the siblings grandfather being Robert Jones - farmer
