A place known as Robsack at or near Margate?
« on: Thursday 09 December 21 05:19 GMT (UK) »
In 1765 George Norton in his Will leaves two messuages to his grandchildren of his deceased son, John Norton and appoints John Fagg as the guardian of his grandchildren.

The Messuages are said to be at a place commonly known as Robsack (Rob-sack) which is said to be at or near  St Lawerence Parish / Ramsgate

Where in Ramsgate in this place called Robsack?

Quote from the Will
All those my two Messuages or Tenements with the Outhouses, Building Grounds, Hereditaments and Appurtenances to them respectively belonging and in the Parish of aforesaid at or near a certain place there called Robsack.

And also here: The John Norton in the Mortgage entry below  is one of the grandchildren

Found a mention of Robsacks in the Bromley & West Kent Mercury 15 May 1931.

"Robsacks" a field so called because the crops there from are said never to equal the amount of seed sown

Interesting.

The best I came up with, in the beginning, was Robsack Wood, the remnants of the large ancient woodland from the Hollington area.  ;D

Impressive searching Kay  :)

It makes sense now

Thank you again.

Was searching for any other Nortons in St Lawrence. A George Norton, son of George of St Lawrence was apprenticed to Joseph Austen of Ramsgate, joiner. in 1735.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Apologies for the delayed reply. That may be his son, baptised 21 October 1720, St Laurence in Thanet. I haven't researched all his children properly yet, except for his son John Norton (my direct line).
Do you have a reference to where son George the apprentice is cited? I don't need the direct link. Just the name of the website is fine.

Thanks, Wayne  :)
