Imperial Yeomanry Record
« on: Friday 10 December 21 21:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone is able to find the record for a George Alfred Smith born 4 March 1873 in Southampton, Hampshire, England please.

I am unsure as to any other details regarding him. I know he travelled to South Africa but that is all I know. Would really like to see if any records exists for him.

Kindest Regards
Andrew

When did he travel to S Africa?  Was any occupation listed for him?

There are census records for a George Smith born 1873 Southampton parents George & Sarah but appreciate difficult names without any further evidence to check the right one.

Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Hi, thank you for looking. This is the person I am looking for in the Imp Yeomanry records.

I believe this person could have used a different name is in fact my ancestor as so many things match. Such as height, hair, colour, eye colour, chest width and expansion width.
But I cannot be sure as it may just be a coincidence as I too also found the George A Smith living in Southampton with his family.

Therefore I am focusing on that currently they are two different people with the same birth date and birth place.

So was looking to see if I could find the record for a George Alfred Smith. I have had a look trying many different things however not been able to successfully find anyone matching George Alfred Smith who was born in Southampton in the Yeomanry index.

Thank you for your time so far!

Regards
Andrew

Hang on...is this him below? I think it's your man, Andrew.  Or do you already have this record?
He signs his name as "Alfred Temple Smith" on the attestation document.
His Trade at enlistment is "Groom". And this chap served in South Africa.
Next of kin is Mrs E Smith, Rose Villa, Bath Road, Hounslow (circa 1900/01).

If it helps, the lady living at Rose Villa, Bath Road in 1901 is Esther Elizabeth Smith. Born c1854 in Southampton. Her husband is James Isaac Smith (born c1846 in London).

Looks like one of her sons is Alfred Graham Temple Smith, born 1873.
