Official adoption did not start until the late 1920's so it was possibly a family arrangement.  She would possibly just have stayed in the workhouse infirmary for the duration of the birth and then returned home.

That's interesting.  I know that she was still in the workhouse with the baby 2 months later according to the census, even though her family lived 4/5 blocks away.
