Lost - Grandad, George Mann
« on: Thursday 16 December 21 20:31 GMT (UK) »
my grandfather died a good sixteen plus years before I was born, early forties, and there's next to nothing about him in the family - odd photos, minimal info - gran is no longer about, my dad and his sister know as much as myself now. so, can anyone further advance the following, as I'm officially lost now....

George Mann
b. 1921 (Mar-Jun) Durham
m. 1946 (Jul-Sept) Durham, Marjorie Norman
d. 1961 (November) Durham

In regards Marjorie, her info is as follows -
b. 13/02/1921, Durham
m. as above
d. 27/02/1993, Durham

They had two children, born 1951 (Durham), 1956 (Oxford) -both alive, their birthday's this month....

Anything, anywhere, on George Mann, is what I'd love, more so now....

The next step is to look at the marriage certificate for George and Marjorie, to get fathers names.

What was Georges exact date of birth?
Did George have a second name starting with T?
I can see 2 possible birth registrations in Co. Durham.

Although they married, I can;t see that Marjorie's name was updated on the 1939 Register to reflect that event

Please don’t be offended but…

Do your father and aunt have real memories of his death? Or were they just told he had died?

Speaking of my own mother’s death in the 1960s, we went to school one morning, came home, she had been taken to hospital, she died in hospital. We didn’t ever see her in hospital, we were told she had died, and then we were whisked away. We didn’t go to the funeral.

In the early years my father didn’t like to talk too much about her.
Thinking about it, it would have been very easy for us to believe a tale.
