« on: Sunday 19 December 21 22:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi , I'm really struggling to find any more info on my great x 5 grandmother Hannah Hall.

Birth 1780 - Uttoxeter Staffordshire, England
Death 1838 - Uttoxeter, Staffordshire

Hannah married Samuel Nield/Neild/Neald/Neeld

If anyone could shed any light on Hannahs parents that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Is their marriage the 1805 one in Abbot's Bromley?  Both of this parish

Marriage license says Samuel was a Labourer (and widower).

Do you have a reason for thinking Hannah was born Uttoxeter?

There is a February 20th 1780 baptism for Hannah daughter of Thos. & Mary at Abbot's Bromley

Hi
Sorry to through a spanner in the works but the licence also says Hannah Hall is a widow.
The second marriage is 19.9.1805.
I think her first marriage was also at Abbots Bromley  24 Dec 1804 by banns
James Hall and Hannah Mellor otp x and x
wit John and Elizabeth Pyatt.
James was buried 14.3.1805 age 21 years

There is an Ann Mellor bapt at Rugeley 5.3.1786 to George and Elizabeth Mellor

Although the Mellors at AB are a John and Elizabeth at the time.

Interesting.  That gives me more to go on.  Thanks guys . I believe this branch may of had gypsy connections but I can't say for sure.  Does the the fact that they signed their names with an X suggest illiteracy ?

Hello
Yes I'm afraid it usually does.Of course it could be the Vicar didn't ask and just filled everything in for them or even a bride who could write not wanting to embarrass the groom who couldn't.
But usually it does mean they are illiterate.
