He was in Township 5, Amador County in 1900, (RJ137's reply #1)
I browsed that township in 1910 and didn't find him.

------
This book lists officials in California counties in 1921
https://www.google.com/books/edition/Roster_State_County_City_and_Township_Of/hEQsAAAAIAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=bridgehouse+sacramento+county+townships&pg=PA57&printsec=frontcover

It lists men in Cosumnes and Lee Townships with Bridgehouse listed on the same line. (Did they live there? I don't know)

Both townships are in ED 91 in 1910. I browsed that ED and didn't find George Hurl. - I didn't find any page that had Bridgehouse in the sidebar either. I did find one of the men, William Fey, in Lee Township though.

------------
There is a Bridge House section in the 1910 Sacramento City Directory - no George Hurl listed

------------
a newsclip that RJ137 posted said he came to California ("this coast") when the Palace Hotel in San Francisco was constructed. Googling for "Palace hotel, San Francisco" got a first hit that said "Originally established in 1875".

https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sfolc-palace-hotel-a-luxury-collection-hotel-san-francisco/

so that lines up with him leaving Scotland about 1872

Thank you oldohiohome.  You have certainly been working very hard, and thinking of all the options. I ordered the death certificate today but would think it will take 2-3 months before processed. Hope it lists parents.

I received a reply this morning that my request for the death certificate for George Hurl has been received and will be mailed Feb 23, 2022. I should receive it a few weeks after that due to delays at the border. Hope it includes complete and valuable information.

I have just found this thread on google and registered with Roots Chat.
I am a direct descendant of George Hurl and I suspect it is my tree that was mentioned in this thread.
I saved the the Amador records to test a theory based on family hearsay.
Peggy13 - can we compare trees somehow?

Hi Liz,
Sorry, I wasn't notified that I had a reply. I don't have an online tree but would gladly share any info that I have. I was researching the Watterson family who have a lot of marriages to the Hurl family and it gets very very confusing. I will pm you with my email address to discuss George.
Thanks ever so much.

Regarding George Hurl who died Aug 17, 1915. His death certificate was received by a direct descendant of his, and he died in the Co. Hospital in Sacramento. There is next to nothing on the death certificate, just his name at the top, age 77 (a bit off), cause of death, and burial Aug 18, 1915 in City Cemetery. A phone call to the City Cemetery didn't find him but they said to try Oddfellows Cemetery who bought the back portion of City Cemetery including Potters Field abt 1913, I think. Anyway, Oddfellows found him but the only info they have is his burial date. On the death certificate, George's residence was given as Bridge House, which I was told was a Men's House for Indigidents in Sacramento.
I wonder if he was there for the 1910 census and could we find him that way.

Peggy
The Bridgehouse that I looked at was a location in Amador County.
There might have been a Bridge House in Sacramento, I haven't looked yet.
Or the people who told you that were confused.

I'm glad you found some helpful cemeteries to deal with.
