Hi JM Thanks I have logged in to the National Library Of Aus and entered everything everywhere I could for PUBLIC ADVERTISER LONDON 1782 Nothing comes up.  Frustrating!  Anyway will just have to hope that the British Library can find the whole page for me.

I'd really love to see other reports of what was going on!  Many thanks Dianna

Looked here as well.  Some of the University Libraries in the USA have it on microfilm.  I emailed one yesterday to see if they could find it for me.  Will keep trying.  Thanks

The eresources at the Australian National Library are a terrific resource, however they can be a bit difficult to navigate. When you log in to the Library, click on "eresources" and then "Browse eResources". then click "G" and scroll down to "Gale Primary Sources".

You can then put in something to search eg "john martin" and limit to 1782. Click on "newspapers and periodicals". You can order the results by date and see the article in the Public Advertiser on 6 Nov. You can either view the article only or the whole page (tick "page" on left hand side in "Explore").

Hope that helps  :)

Hi I have now received the whole page for that day!  Pay's to use worldcat!  I received one from the British library AND Yale in the US.  I will still try and use the Gale resource though to see what happened on the day of his actual trial. Great.  Thanks for all the links and advise, very much appreciated.  Regards Dianna

Using a NSW State Library Readers Card :

Snips 001 and 002 are from one newspaper
Snips 003 and 004 are from one other newspaper

And back in July 1782

Two snips attached :)   Now I wonder about that surname for the coat owner...

HI JM that is wonderful.  Thanks so much for that. I didn't have the two extra snips.  All good.  Yes Mr Turnbull!  What were you wondering about him. D

Could he be an ancestor of a former PM of Australia?
