Question re Northumberland MI index
« on: Tuesday 28 December 21 07:29 GMT (UK) »

I don't need a specific look up, but do have a quick question for anyone who may have a copy of

"Northumberland and Durham Memorial Inscriptions"

Would like to know if the above mentioned MI's contain all actual wording from a Headstone or simply a summary like name and date of death (as per those shown on FindMyPast).

Thanks

I realise that you asked about the original dataset that the FindMyPast entries are taken from but the FindMyPast entries in that data set do include full transcripts eg

Sacred to the memory of Margaret wife of William Winchester of Ewart Lodge who died 5th Feb. 1824 aged 69 yrs.

Some I have looked at also have photos of the headstone
eg
Ada Elizabeth Smith - 1953 - Gosforth, St Nicholas - Northumberland

Thanks for that information Rosie99

I wasn't aware that some actually had a lot of extra information. The ones I'd looked at only had the name and date of death - not even "wife of ...." as shown in the PR's.

I guess it means that the headstones I was interested in were very limited in their wording. Hoped to confirm some family relationships but will try an alternative or 2 I have in mind.

Thank you again  :-*

Just an update in case it might help someone else

Finally discovered the MI I have been searching for  8)

In case anyone is looking for further Memorial Inscription info, some of the MI transcriptions on FindMyPast don't contain everything that is reported in the "Northumberland and Durham Memorial Inscriptions"

As they say - Always check the Original (or at least not a summary of transcription of a transcription)

Now I'm happy  ;D  ;D  ;D

Its always worth trying Family Search. I was looking for MIs in Kirkwhelpington recently and searched the FS catalogue for Kirkwhelpington which took me to the images of the transcription lists - including a lovely little map marking the gravestone numbers in the list.
