Missing family
« on: Tuesday 28 December 21 10:26 GMT (UK) »
I have been trying to link this record to a person in my family tree.
Mary Connelly born abt 1870 in Kirkcudbright.
The census for 1881 shows a Mary aged 11 living with her mother also Mary Connolly born Glasgow and her siblings who were all born in Urr Kirkcudbright. However on trying to trace this family I have been able to go no further. I can not seem to find any birth records registered to support that they were born in Kirkcudbright nor any further census records of this family. Any help would be very much appreciated.

This looks a lot like them in the 1891, despite the obvious differences to the 1881 - and no daughter Mary present:

1891:  At Erskines Close Nr2, Kirkcudbright
RN 861, ED3, HS50
Head: Mary Connelly 62, Charwoman, b  Girvan, Ayrshire
Son: George Connelly 25, Balmaclellan, Kirbt'shire
Son: Thomas Connelly 22, General Labourer, b  Urr, Kirbt'shire

Have you checked the actual 1881 Census on SP to see what mother Mary's marital status is listed as? Also to see if there has been a mistranscript on her age.

There is also this, perhaps worth looking at in SP:
Mary Connelly, born 27 May 1870, Clyde,Glasgow,Lanarkshire
Mother: Mary Connelly

Cheers

This 1881 transcription suggests Mary senior was born a little earlier and still married, have you seen the original census on Scotland’s People?

Mary   Connelly Head Married 49 Washerwoman b Glasgow, Lanarkshire
George Connelly Son 16 Labourer b New Galloway, Kirkcudbrightshire
Thomas Connelly Son   13 Scholar   b Urr, Kirkcudbrightshire
Mary   Connelly Daughter 11 General servant   b Urr, Kirkcudbrightshire

However no birth registrations.
