There are several reports on Reading matches, in the Reading Mercury and Daily Herald just prior to, and at the start of WW2. Between Sep and end o October (as far as I looked), Reading played various non-league friendly war matches between such clubs as Chelsea (who were FA Cup holders), Southend United, Fulham, where he is named and a brief account of his performance is given. At least I assumed it was him!

Sam, sorry I should have said Yes it was him at Reading and I would welcome any report where he is named.

There's one too large possibly to fit and it's a pdf file, but I'll see what I can do with them all.

Reading played Portsmouth winning 6 - 3. Reading were on top of their form. Match described as an exhilarating match which kept the 8, 000 spectators keyed-up from start to finish.
Part of the match report in Reading Mercury 14 October 1939, p.17

Sorry just realised you can attach pdf's, so I'll attach them as such, including the full page match reports that I sent clips of already. It will make it a bit easier for me since I'm a bit confused over when some o the matches were played, with reports for some ocurring on days that other matches were seemingly being played. I'm sure you can work it out.
