George Nye
« on: Wednesday 29 December 21 17:42 GMT (UK) »
I’m looking for information regarding George Nye, born 1849 in Dartford, Kent. He married a Rachael Spence from Tadcaster, Yorkshire.
I would also like to know who his parents were.
I have seen his name written as George Thomas Nye Gardener? Thank you!

I think that you need his marriage certificate for details of his father.

There is a George Nye bn in Kent with mothers maiden surname Gardener in Sevenoaks registration district but that would not fit a Dartford birth.

There is a also a possible George Nye in Great Timble in 1871 age 25 bn Ashford, Kent  could that also be him  :-\

census entries show his occupation as gardener. He remarried as a widower 24 Oct 1899 in Laisterdyke to Sarah Jane Allison. Parish entry shows his father as Thomas William Nye, gardener, deceased. George's age noted as 55 on 1899 marriage.

Thank you for your replies replies rosie99, grandarog and osprey, really appreciated. You’ve filled in quite a few gaps. I had noticed another woman mentioned somewhere but didn’t realise the connection but as you pointed out George was noted as a Widower. 👏👏

Everything points to him being the George Thomas Nye - birth Sept.1845 West Ashford, Kent, mmn Goldsmith.   He was baptised 19/10/1845 Ashford, son of Thomas (labourer) and Mary.

In 1851 at Ashford father is shown as Thomas Wm. and son as George Thos.

As plain Thomas Nye he married Mary Ann Goldsmith 11/6/1835 Wateringbury, Kent.

George was in Yorkshire 1871 when a labourer at waterworks.   Doesn't seem to be a gardener until 1881 census and father Thomas not a gardener at all.  Census shows him as a Railway Labourer.
