Wow again, thanks so much for the latest discoveries !!

I will be going up the tree gradually to see what else I can discover in the coming days.

Just for curiosity's sake, does anyone have any idea about the 2nd name of Scholastica's sister Frances, as mentioned on her death certificate (see attached) ? I thought it said "Chalestifer" or Chalestifor", but that  doesn't exist. All suggestions welcome.

I'll keep going in the meantime but will take a break for the evening and hope you all have a lovely one !

Best wishes
Niki

Forgot to say, my apologies to johnhood, it was my mistake in the beginning, thinking Scholastica was related to the artist, so I led you onto the wrong track. Very sorry about that - and thanks for your help anyway, much appreciated !

Best wishes to you and the whole wonderfully kind and efficient team who helped !

The Cheltenham Examiner of Sept 13 1871 advertises an auction of the furniture & household goods of William Seville Esq, deceased late of Greenwich Hospital
The list of furniture -- mahogany & rosewood tables, bedsteads, bookcases etc etc, silver & silver plate certainly indicate a well-to-do gentleman's residence.

But I cannot find a suitable death for this William Seville to determine whether he could be Scholastiva's father

The William Sivell recorded at 9 Selkirk Parade, Cheltenham (the address in the auctioneer's advertisement) is aged 66 and was born in Lympton, Devon.

Checking on the National Archives A2a

Prerogative Court of Canterbury (which should be on Ancestry)

This Will is held by the National Archives, Kew, (which can be loaded for £3.50) or it used to be free if you register

Will of William SEVILL, Gentleman of Bisley, Gloucestershire.  **

Location: Bisley, Gloucestershire

Date: 03 August 1801

Reference: PROB 11/1362/4

Subjects: Wills and Probate

(There is an earlier will of John SEVILL of Chalford in Bisley, clothier, dated 1709) So, Chalford is in Bisley and the family appear to be Clothiers)

** this Will would give name of Wife if still alive, children etc.

The death certificate of Frances in 1834 - gives the address as Lower Street, Stroud.

Just googled and the website headed

New Inn, Lower Street, Stroud.  Tried to do the link

Website is headed: New Inn, Lower Street, Stroud.

This gives an early history of the Street which makes interesting reading.  There is mention of a Thomas CHANDLER, states he is on the 1841 census.    An outside chance, Frances CHALESIFOR Sevill, could be CHANDLER

Hello,
Interesting article and history about Stroud, thanks a lot ! I hadn't noticed the "Lower Street" address, that's indeed helpful to know.

I tried to imagine a link with this Thomas CHANDLER but am afraid I can't see what that could be. Little Frances when she died was named Frances Chalestifor Cockshead Sevill, ie using both mother and father's surnames... so I can't see how the CHANDLER person would come into the picture. But I do agree it's a complete mystery, I can't seem to find ANY clue about what or who "Chalestifor" comes from (I've tried other spellings without success).

But again, thanks to anyone and if you have any ideas, let me know !
Good evening,

Niki
