Peak/Peake/Peek family
« on: Friday 31 December 21 04:48 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information on a man with the surname of Peak or other spellings, that came to Falmouth, Cornwall during WWII to work. I believe he is from somewhere in Yorkshire and would have been in his 20s at this time. I know this is all very vague but this is all I have at the moment. This is in relation to the McCormack family if that helps. Many thanks.

Sorry but “needle in a haystack”  springs to mind.  Male birth registrations for the surnames Peak or Peake/Peek in Yorkshire between 1916 & 1921 exceed 100 & none show a mothers maiden name of McCormack which could have been a starting point

Did he remain in Cornwall?

How is he connected to the McCormack name?

The only marriage between Peake/McCormack is Archibald E Peake (b Rugby 1914) to Mary E McCormack but that was 1939 in Canterbury Kent

Hi Carole. Thanks so much for your reply. You are right, it is a needle in a haystack. I will give more info. A man called Peake, possibly John, worked in Falmouth during WWII and had a relationship with my dad’s mum outside of marriage, who then became pregnant. He was “removed” from Falmouth by the family members of my dad, called McCormack. My dad has a cancer diagnosis and would love to find out who his real dad is but I don’t think it’s going to be possible due to lack of information. I was hoping that perhaps a relative of Mr Peake would know he had worked in Falmouth and that would be a lead. Do you think this is a no go? I think it might be unless you have any ideas. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi again. I’ve just found out that his name was Harry Peake, not John.

I think your best bet is going to be DNA.

Thanks Pauline. I think you’re right! If I did it instead of my dad, would that be enough?

A Harry Peake was born in Liskeard but in 1897 so would have been 43 when your father was born.  He was single
