Need help dating old photograph - Melbourne (19th or 20th century)
« on: Sunday 02 January 22 07:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I’m trying to figure out which ancestors are in the attached photo (which is on a postcard marked Yeoman Studios, Royal Arcade Melbourne).
Any help appreciated!

It's WW1 era 1914-1919.

What reason do you have to believe that any of them are your ancestors?

How many of your ancestors were in the AIF, WW1?

And the man sitting has left leg amputated?

The stamp box for Kodak Australia dates it to 1923.

The 1923 one has 18 or 1B in the centre so that's not a match.

There's a 1919 example which seems a better match:

Fair enough,  not shown on the site I use. I stand corrected. Well spotted.

There's also this one which has + in each corner and is undated

Add - cf with the one on the postcard shown in OP's post.

Thanks on s all for your help :-)
I had a shortlist of 4 relatives that I thought could have been in the photo; I researched all of their WW1 records on NAA and found that one (a great great uncle) had his left leg amputated during the war.. so I believe that is him. I’m unsure if the other 2 people in the picture are relatives or friends so will continue to investigate further..
