Any ideas
« on: Sunday 02 January 22 16:26 GMT (UK) »
I have several pictures of my great great grandmother and some of her children apparently on holiday. Infuriatingly although there are sometimes names scrawled on the pictures I do not know where they were taken. Family rumour has it that it might be the I. of Man.

Unfortunately there is nothing of any note to differentiate it from any other resort.

Looks like a wooden landing stage.
Could be anywhere around the island, on a river, or a boating lake?
Silverdale? Mooragh Park?

Basically - pick a park or gardens anywhere.  As you say - IoM is only a rumour.  Could have been any one of a number of resorts

Where did they live?

the Ada photo has a bridge that is extremely similar to one at Groudle Glen and at a spot used by a known photographer - John Walton of Castle Hill Victoria Rd Douglas - Groudle glen is just a couple of tram stops outside of Douglas (see www.manxnotebook.com)
Walton was active from 1900 thru to 1910 + maybe later

Frances,
Thank you for that information I'll pass it on to other parts of the family  - they're in Oz and they did have two sons of hers telling them that the Thorp's often went to the I. of Man so since I began this query it has become less of a rumour.
