I think James Boyle may have died 1929, and Maria outlived him.

If I have found the correct family, Maria's daughter was Harriet Louise Boyle born 1892 in New York. She died 1967 but findagrave has her father as William rather than James which was on the 1900 census.

I think James Boyle may have died 1929, and Maria outlived him.

Matilda's obit states she is survived by a son and three sisters. Her obit names those three sisters and where they live, even as far away as California. If Maria was alive, especially living in NY, I'm sure she would have been mentioned. The obit implies, to me, that if Matilda had any other siblings they must have predeceased her.

Yes, that did cross my mind as well. But this Maria was a Waterson and possibly Gabriel was a brother. I tried to find a Gabriel Watterson born in Apr 1872 in Ireland but could not do so on irishgenealogy.ie.
So I looked for him in 1910. But I found the marriage of a Gabriel W. Watterson in 1911 to Frances Drennan, his parents Gabriel Watterson and Mary McCullough. Son Gabriel born 1873. Maybe this is him. Seems to be from Co. Fermanagh so a different branch.
