Any clues?
« on: Wednesday 05 January 22 01:47 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone able to pick up any information from this photo? Either from what is there or what is not there.
The eagle on the sleeve appears to be, from what I can google, and early representation and I can't work out what the symbol below it could be.
The man this photo purports to be joined the RAF in 1930 as an AC2.

A longshot but any ideas would be welcomed.

I can't really assist, except to say that my late Other Half was in the RAF 1950s-1960s working in the Fire Brigade and other positions as an SAC (Senior Aircraftman).

By that time the Ranks were AC and SAC; the latter replaced the AC2 (Aircraftman and Senior Aircraftman)

The photo could be older than 1930.
The photo could date to sometime after the RAF was formed in 1918 from the RNAS and RFC.
The uniform looks like RNAS.
The man is wearing an armband with an RAF Eagle on it.

Could the emblem below the eagle be crossed flags (denoting a signaller)?

Several RN records on Ancestry for a James Mudd (L/Sig). One of the record images indicates a March 1939 Payment date for him. The Authority Issued for Payment is date-stamped Feb 1939.
