Girionfa, Llanllyfni
« on: Friday 07 January 22 19:06 GMT (UK) »
Not sure if I have the correct spelling, it could be Girianfa; can anyone help please, whereabouts in Llanllyfni, is this dwelling?

I have come across it twice recently, once written on the back of a photo, with the names "Mrs.G.E.Hughes and Megan" dated c 1919.
and
1903 place of death for Daniel Parry b.1828 - d.1903.

The probate record has a slightly different spelling, although Llanllifni is also incorrect:-

PARRY Daniel of 28 County Road Penygroes Llanlyfni Carnarvonshire quarryman died 17 September 1903 at Girianfa Penygroes. Probate Bangor 10 November to Jane Parry widow and Henry Parry schoolmaster. Effects £213 5s

The nearest word I can find in the area is Rhianfa - e.g. Rhianfa, Tan'rallt, Penygroes.  Perhaps he died at a quarry. There are slate quarries at Tan'rallt (Tan-yr-allt) there and a Glan-yr-afon, sometimes Glan'rafon.

Hi
According to newspaper account Daniel died unexpectedly at, or outside, his son in law  William Griffith Thomas' house. William and another worker died the following day in a quarry accident, and an inquest was held for the 3 the same time. According to Probate, Daniel's address was 28 County Road, Penygroes, and place of death Girianfa. According to newspaper William's address was EIRIANFA (a common house name), High Street, Penygroes. In my opinion Girfania should be EIRIANFA.

I can see the same, or similar, article now and agree with EmyrBorth.

Emyr,

Thank you, you have given me help in the past.

The house name appears on two photographs which had belonged to a relative, Llenyn Griffiths, late of Muriau and Siop Griffith.  Llenyn's mother Annie Griffiths was a Williams from Meillionydd,Vron (my nain was her sister Lizzie).
Lizzie and Annie's nain was Catherine Parry 1813, married to Ellis William Williams - I have managed to find a lot of info on them and their descendants,  am now looking at all the Parry relatives as I think the two photo's are connected to the Parry family.
I will attempt to post the pics on here.
RE the William Griffith Thomas s-i-l you mention, I don't have, as yet, marriages for Daniel's children and step children - he married a widow, Jane Davies, who had several children.
Work in progress.
p.s. During the war my family and I lived Bro Hedd, County Road, where my brother was born. The house belonged to Thomas and Annie Griffiths of Muriau.

I have found a different article which gives the name as Vrianfa: https://newspapers.library.wales/view/3415488/3415495/174/vrianfa

I think William Robert Thomas was living at 18 High Street in 1901 and married Alice Parry in 1902. Alice is on the 1901 census as daughter of Daniel.

You can see the address on Google Street View but has a different name, although he may have moved.
