PALMER of Whitehouses, Retford.
« on: Tuesday 11 January 22 01:28 GMT (UK) »
hi team,

I have my PALMER family who were 'of Whitehouses' in the mid 1700's.

Would Whitehouses be as in the actual Pub or was it a locale/village.  The church records seem to be Ordsall.

Richard PALMER was buried 1728 of Whitehouses, and
Richard PALMER was buried 1757 of Whitehouses at Ordsall.

According to this
http://www.ordsallparish.plus.com/Parish/Pages/History/history_of_ordsall_parish_1.htm
'Whitehouses' was 'a hamlet' within the parish of Ordsall.

http://www.nottshistory.org.uk/monographs/ordsall1940/ordsall16.htm
This site lists some 16 inhabitants (or they might be owners), at 'Whitehouses', so it must have been a bigger place than just the inn (for which you get most hits on a Google search). Not sure what the date is for these people.

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Ordsall,_Nottinghamshire_Genealogy
includes a mention of Whitehouses hamlet.

If you put "Whitehouses" hamlet Ordsall into Google, you'll find lots of information. (You need the inverted commas to make a specific search if you haven't done this before).

Though much later, you can see Whitehouses on this 1885 map.

Hello and thankyou for your replies and valuable info.

Some interesting bits on Ordsall and Whitehouses.  Couldn't see any Palmer's at Whitehouses in 1840 but I did see a Richard NETTLESHIP who is probably a relative.  The widow PALMER was resident at Ordsall in 1760, she'd be my x7 gr grandmother Mary PALMER nee NETTLESHIP I'd think.

Robert PALMER was in trouble in 1680 for not attending church for 1 month, oh no!

The map of Whitehouses was great as it also showed Ordsall well.  The railway came awful close.

The PALMER records at West Retford added a few extra issue into the family.  There are two children to Abraham and Sarah, I can't find a baptism for Abraham in Notts to place him but there is an Abraham further back so poss he is descended from him.

Thanks again and I'll keep searching.
