Edith Hilda Walden b Croydon 1883 or 1886?

This is one of my long standing brick walls. I can't find any birth record for Edith Hilda Walden.

She married Henry Hooper on 25th April 1910 Marylebone(from his army record). We see them in the 1911 census at 3 Rundell Road Paddington with two children (twins) and a visitor who is probably Edith's older sister Grace Caroline Walden (also from Croydon, I can't find a birth for her either.)

In the 1939 Register Edith gives her dob as 10 Dec 1883. The year might be wrong because the 1911 census suggests a birth year of 1886.

Any help much appreciated.

I presume that you don't have the marriage certificate 

There is a Grace Walden a servant age 21 bn Croydon in Paddington 1901
RG13/3 f150 p8

and probably Edith in Kensington 1901 age 19 born Croydon
RG13/23 f87 p25

Closest on freebmd is Grace Caroline Allden b March qtr 1884 Camberwell

If they were sisters - I suspect they were born under a different surname & mum married a Mr Walden

No - I know it would give her father's name but I try to find things out without spending too much money!

That's what I was thinking. I've tried looking for all Edith Hilda born around those dates in Croydon - nothing. Same with Grace Caroline. It's got me stumped.

As they are so elusive it would not surprise me if any mention of fathers details on that marriage were made up  .

A possibility in 1881 but birthyears are out.  Indexed as Malden but amended to Walden

Caroline 4 & Edith 2 - both b Croydon.  Mother Eliza is a widow

Forget the above - GRO online shows them as Caroline Emma & Edith Harriet - mmn Hooper

Only 2 Walden female births in Croydon. 1877 and 1879. Both strangely have mmm as Hooper.
