Occupation on 1921 census
« on: Thursday 13 January 22 14:51 GMT (UK) »
I would be grateful for some help with the occupation and business name where a 15 year old girl was working please.  I think it says meat factory (packer in), next column is something like E Clarkose Ltd meat drapers?

Looking at it on a larger screen it does look like Clarkose but can't see  listing for that so far in Portsmouth.  Clarksons are a steel manufacturer.

Have you checked for Clarkose?

I did have a quick look for Clarkose but didn’t see anything.  Thank you for the info, much appreciated.

Hi, sorry to be a nuisance, could you tell me where you have found Clarksons in Portsmouth please? I’ve been looking but can’t find them.  I’ve been Googling, looked through the online Portsmouth encyclopaedia and Kelly’s Directory with no joy.  I’m probably missing something obvious  :)

FindMyPast only gives the top-level description. For a more comprehensive description to need to use "A Dictionary of Occupation Terms" which was published by the Ministry of Labour to provide "a descriptive glossary of occupations" and was based on the 1921 census. It is available on CD from Amazon but an easier to use way is by using DOOT at http://doot.spub.co.uk/.
