Baptisms ...... visitation
« on: Thursday 13 January 22 16:50 GMT (UK) »
Trying to work out what this says.

'Daughter of Lucy Willis' ..?? I believe it ends with visitation but can't work out logically what the two words before would be?

Any help appreciated thanks

"return to visitation"

Something to do with the making of transcripts to be handed to the Bishop's visiting representatives perhaps.

Yes, I'd agree it's 'return to visitation'.

Are you sure the surname is 'Willis'?
I can't see 'is' at the end of the name.

This entry may be written by two different people.
The writer of the name, and the writer of the 'return to visitation' are both poor at 'crossing their 't's' so that they look like 'l's, but they do seem to 'dot their 'i's'. There is no such 'i' and dot at the end of the name.
The last letter is very unclear. It doesn't look like an 's'. It is unlike the only other 's' on this clip in 'visitation', which was possibly written by a second person anyway. Is there another 's' at the end of a word on the page by the same hand that wrote the child's name?

Hi, thanks for your reply, yes I agree the surname of this person seems to change between Willar/Willas/Willis in the years, unfortunately theres no image for the daughters marriage just a transcript from Dorset OPC etc.
