Feeling very sad about the people of Tonga and surrounding areas, these things happening are beyond our control,we moan a bit a bit of snow or ice on our cars which we have to scrape off, we don't know how lucky we are

Called on my nearish neighbour ,The poorly sighted one whose son has just died, with some leaflets re ready meals delivered to your freezer.
Also her gloves which she had dropped.
There is a range of meals thaat do not need to be stored in a freezer, she just has a top of the fridge small freezer.

Took some Dundee cake to next door ,but it has whisky in it so she refused.
I don’t buy alcohol only Amaretti for trifles ,and the whisky was one from
Islay ,a Smokey peaty one ,you can really taste it.
Was just sitting in the almost empty drinks cupboard.
Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage recipe.

Watching the naughty dog programme ,honestly !
Some owners are unable to speak firmly to their badly  behaved  dogs.
Soppy “ stop it” no authority in there at all.
It amazes me so many dogs are so lovely.

No snowdrops peeping through yet in my garden ,but we are up North.!
New plans for our town centre ,the traffic congestion is shocking .
It is impossible to cross the road ,such long distances between crossings.
Nose to tail traffic yet more and more housebuilding.
Well Bury needs the Council  Tax from Ramsbottom !
The town will lose its Village atmosphere ,which is what is its great attraction. It will take a few years to complete the plans .
Vast changes.
Ah well , it’s quaintness has been its downfall plus an ex resident( Peel Holdings’ John Whitaker! ) bought then sold farmland for building !

He lives in The I.O.M. Now he has spoilt Ramsbottom ,might also be something to do with taxes!

Well, kitchen to tidy and a cuppa, last pills and eye drops ,then bed at a more reasonable time tonight.
Cheerio folks.
Viktoria.

Yes lovely.
Those and Lily of The Valley  are my favourites.
Such plans for Rammy .
I was on the Committee of FORCH :- Friends Of Ramsbottom Civic  Hall .
We got the Council to promise the funds from the sale of the old Council Offices ,now The Chocolate Box ,would be spent on the Civic Hall ,expected to be in the £160,000  band, ,actually was £600,000!
So a lot of work was done but not the top floor .Costs are high so not many clubs and associations can afford to rent!
It is worrying that in the plans the road from  the  crossroads  near that stupid urn ,to Nuttall lane is called Bolton Road  West ,it is actually Bolton Street, does not auger well!
We will see.
Cheerio,enjoy your snowdrops.
Viktoria.

I noticed the incorrect street name on the plans. I mean, it's only the main street through the town centre.  ;)
My snowdrops are more northerly than yours but climate is mild. Strong winds forecast for tonight & tomorrow.

I wonder what will happen to the Church banner which I found lying in the mud when taking the dog a walk near Church Fields several years ago,.
It was destined for a skip!
I phoned The Heritage Society ,as the church ,built by the Grant brothers no longer wanted it, but in a skip!It had led the Church in the Whit Walks for all the years since the church was closed ,deconsecrated as Scottish Presbyterian  and reconsecrated as Anglican by a nephew of The Grant brothers.
It was rescued and spread out on the floor of the top storey of The Civic  Hall
to dry out, on newspaper.
Not the church in the centre,St Paul’s ,that is hung up on the back wall.
I did suggest The Peoples’  Museum in Manchester might accept it,they have some from the very many churches ,demolished in the 60’s as slum clearances depopulated inner city parishes.

We will see.

I'm halfway up the western side of the Pennines and must say the sky during these last couple of weeks excepting for a few spots of rain has been crisp, blue and clear of clouds.

My #2 son cleared the front garden of weeds and one large invasive shrub at the end of last year.   He then planted an armful of a variety of bulbs.

Each day this year I poke my nose out of the front door to see how many green shoots are poking through the earth - but nary a one has decided to see what the sky looks like.

I don't know how he managed it but the scores of annual primulas/primroses and grape hyacinths  have deserted me - all I have to show for what was a "cottage garden" is one solitary rose bush in a sea of brown sludge plus a couple of "snapdragon plants that actually flowered through December..
