Rhodesian / Zimbabwe birth records
« on: Monday 17 January 22 16:17 GMT (UK) »
Hello All

Where would one search for birth records from 1912 for someone who was born in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe?
Also if the person was born in Rhodesia during this time- who he be a subject of the UK?

Also I have looked on Ancestry, SA Gendata and family search

There were two Rhodesias, Northern and Southern. Both British colonies.

UK National Archives says BMD records from former colonies were usually retained by the colony. You would need to know which Rhodesia, and then check with the government of the successor country, either Zimbabwe or Zambia.

Do you know a town or district or …? Someone might be able to identify which country from that.

Hello

Thank you for your response.
Salisbury is a town that seems to pop up most often.

I will have to brush up on my history of North and South Rhodesia. I’d assumed it had all become Zimbabwe.
Iv learnt something new today 😀
