Have tried three times, entering the numbers carefully, and tychecking one up, to no avail. Their system basically implies it’s wrong. My line is from EE via ‘1p mobile.’ Any advice would be gratefully received,

Gmail is, officially' my email programme, but I just had a message from Google checking that I’m the right person using it. But, I came unstuck being unable recall my password - I set it up some set it up some time ago. And, to add to the problem I no longer have that mobile. So, that’s why I’m trying to set up a different email account.
