Burgess Henry's causing problems
« on: Saturday 22 January 22 16:35 GMT (UK) »
Here this afternoon trying to work out some Burgess family information I looked at a few years ago . Probably need to leave it and come back to it over the next few days but maybe someone can lead me along the correct path .

I have a Henry Burgess who ref . 1841 census is b . about 1766 at Bedminster Parade . I believe he died in the Dec 1/4 of 1841  - ( there are 2 pos . freebmd refs . for 75 years..1 x Bedminster  1 x Bristol ) . Many other family members died in the Bedminster area and although not gospel , I do believe the Bedminster ref . is our Henry .
Anyway , he married Mary ( ? ) . Can anyone advise me of her surname please ? I have various Henry and Mary Burgess names in the family and have become lost with the info . I have .

But then I have the same problem . Their son called Henry , married another Mary ( pos . Puggsley or variants of that surname ) with a date written down 18 Aug 1814 . I can't remember where I got this date a year or so ago .

Would anyone at some stage over the weekend be able to shed any light on these Henry's as I am completely Burgessed out at the moment .

Thanks in advance , regards

Hi Rosie99..I'm not 100% but every family member around this time were known to be born Somerset ( and lived in Bedminster area ) . The son on the 1841 census ( believing its the son ) would be born around 1791 as shown as 50y and a Maltster as is his father also mentioned in the opening post .
( I know these dates / years could differ slightly ) .

Looking at my notes here , the son ( Henry ) pos . mrd . Heanton Puncharden ( nr . Barnstaple ) so his wife Mary ( Puggsley...or whatever ) possibly comes from here .
Sorry to be vague ...

1841 Census at Bedminster shows that Henry snr, Henry Jnr. and their respective wives Mary were NOT born in Somerset.

Looks like Henry junior was bp.23/7/1791 South Molton, Devon where various siblings also baptised between 1789 and 1800.

Again, looks like Henry senior married Mary Dunn 12/8/1788 Filleigh, Devon.   One child baptised Filleigh - Elizabeth bp.30/11/1788 and then family move to South Molton.

1851 Bedminster census shows children of George jnr and Mary were born in Bristol.  His wife Mary shown bc.1795 Barnstaple, Devon.

There is a well sourced tree on ancestry you may want to compare notes
