Help with Census
« on: Saturday 22 January 22 21:08 GMT (UK) »
Looking for someone with more experience to help me with some lost ancestors.
I can find two relatives in the 1851, 1861 Census, John and Jael Sawyer. John born Ogbourne, St Andrew, Wiltshire, England in 1822, baptised 7 Jan 1822. Jael (nee Harper) born Ogbourne, St Andrew, Wiltshire, England in 1819, and baptised 28 Oct 1819. John died 24 August 1878 Preshute, Jael died 22 Jan 1909.
1841 Census John appears in Preshute.
1851 St Peter and St Paul, Marlborough, Wiltshire
1861 Preshute, Wiltshire

I can't find Jael in the 1841 Census.

I can not find either of them in any subsequent census, i.e 1871, or Jael in 81,91,1901.
They both seemed to have disappeared.
Can anyone help in the search please?

1891 Again as indexed (no wonder you can;t find her!). Listed as Kentish Town but appears to be at exactly  the same address as 1901, ie 46 Patshull Road. She's obviously a fixture!

Thomas G Reason    70    Head
Eliza C Reason          30    Niece
Joel Sauyor                    68    Servant b Ogbourn

1871 - more poor indexing!  Elcot Lane, Preshute. Both born Ogbourn

Not much luck with 1881 as yet - I suspect she's moved to London given she's widowed and all 3 sons have headed in that direction

The name is actually correctly indexed in 1881, but the age is wrong.  Ancestry has 39 but it looks like 59 to me.  She is again with Thomas REASON in Patshull Road.

Got to the point of searching for any female b Ogbourn in a 10 year range around 1822! Didn't spot the wrong age in 1881 though!
