Prison in 1921
« on: Sunday 23 January 22 20:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone, I have a relative I have spoken about here before, Abraham Entwistle, born in Oldham in 1876. He was in Prison in the 1901 Census and I was helped to find more information about this by rootshat members. According to the 1911 Census he married around 1908 to Annie Leach and was living in Oldham still. I have recently found him again on the 1921 Census, he is in prison again - HMS Prison, Cheetham, Manchester. He is still listed as married but I cannot find his wife on the census.

I wondered if anyone were able to shed anymore light on this latest imprisonment please?

Many thanks, Luke

If you want a possible for the wife you could buy this record to see if it is correct

M Ann
Entwistle
1883
Chadderton, Lancashire, England
Oldham
Oldham
Lancashire

Chadderton is one mile from Oldham. (But the children don't seem to be there?)

Also on FindMyPast there is a 1921 prison entry for

Entwistle
Abraham

1921
England & Wales, Crime, Prisons & Punishment, 1770-1935

which may be worth a look
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Annie is not Leach but Lynch according to marriage and birth records.
I can’t see the children either and there are more after 1911 according to Lancs BMD.

Heywood is correct - Lynch

Baptism: 6 Jul 1908 St Mary RC, Oldham, Lancashire, England
Abram Entwhistle - filius Abram Entwhistle & Annae (formerly Lynch)
    Born: 26 Apr 1908
    Abode: 79 Dorothy Lane
    Godparents: Agnes Quinlan
Baptised by: Fred. G. Seed Miss. Coad.
.................
Birth: 20 Oct 1912 Workhouse, Oldham, Lancashire, England
Theresa Entwistle - legitimate daughter of Abraham Entwistle & Annie
From what parish parent admitted: Oldham DS.
so looking at the 1912 birth - Abraham may well be in Prison in 1912 ??

ADDED- Heywood - what does the DS tand for in Oldham DS ??
oakes,liverpool..neston..backford..poulton cum spittal(bebington)middlewich,cheshire......   sacht,helgoland  .......merrick,herefordshire adams,shropshire...tipping..ellis..  jones,garston,liverpool..hartley.dunham massey..barker. salford

Davidft, nothing seems to be coming up for me on the site you mentioned when I put in Abraham Entwistle, 1876 for oldham, chadderton or manchester.

How did you find the prison record? (I've no doubt I'm just being a bit thick here).

Thanks, Luke

Hi

You need to search on
1. Institutions and Organisations tab
2.Under that on the Prison Registers sub tab
3. Under that tab search for Abraham Entwistle born 1876 +- 2 years and you get four results. The bottom two are for your Abraham and give extra details.

4. The first two may also be for your Abraham in 1902 !!!!!

Good luck

Hi Davidft,

thank you for this, I've finally managed to download these and I think they are both him (I think the 1902 forms are as well).

Really appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Luke
